PLAN-10 INTERVIEW This is an interview from the
now defunct Plan-10 website.

Plan-10: The standard Plan-10.com first question...Who is Tim Clague?
Tim: I am a young film maker and screenwriter whose work ranges from straight drama such as "N'That" to more experimental work such as "All or Nothing". For more detail on these and other works check out www.projector.demon.co.uk I have a degree in Media Production from Bournemouth University, England where I specialised in Lighting/Camera and I continue to try and crew on other low budget productions.
Plan-10: How did you come up with the story for N' That?
Tim: When you're a young lad you're a crazy whirlwind of energy and ideas. Your mouth seems to connected directly to your mind which in turn would appear to be short circuited. I wanted to convey this energy to the audience and then when they had been pulled into this frantic and obsessed life and had started to like the boy, to show a darker side. If I think about my favourite moments from great films it is the dramatic twist or a characters revelation that I always remember. A change in direction is as important to a short as a feature. In the case of N'That the change is a gradual one as details are revealed.
Plan-10: Did you set out to do a short screenplay from the beginning?
Tim: Yes. I have always thought that shorts were brilliant viewing. Yet we see so few on TV or at the cinema. Shorts not only allow good ideas to be told (why must a story be 90-120 mins long) but also allow greater experimention. For example the jump cut style of N'That would make you feel sick after 20 mins., never mind a feature. They are a cheap way of trying things out and if the audience doesn't like it then it doesn't last too long either. From our point of view it allows young or new writers (like myself) to focus in on characters without complex plot-lines taking all our brain power.
Plan-10: Are you looking at having N' That produced in the future?
Tim: I wrote the script for a competition which it doesn't seem to have won so I will probably produce it myself.
Plan-10: The screenplay says it is the 6th draft. Did you have any help with the revisions? Did a lot change from the 1st draft to the 6th draft? If so, what?
Tim: I really value sharing ideas and scripts in any form. I send it to everyone - Mum, Dad, fellow film makers, scripting friends, and post on internet. The danger of not showing it around is to produce a script that is unclear to others or self-centred. The only thing I would add is to be as detailed and constructive as possible if you decide to act as a reader. I did get a few replies back in the form of just 'I liked it'. In the end it did'ntchange too much - just details rather than structure. I like to have the structure worked out first before I start - of course if no one else liked it....
Plan-10: What was the last movie you saw that you would highly recommend to people out there?
Tim: Here in the UK we get films about 3-6 months after the US. This is to spread out the prints and the publicity. Therefore the last films I saw was 'Boogie Nights' (at a free press screening - good eh). I liked the 70's style - split screen etc and I thought Burt Reynolds was brilliant. The shots were interesting and it took it's time instead of rushing. However I would say I have seen more than enough "guys / guns / drugs / money / deals" sort of thing. If you are interested in indy cinema you really should check out some of the new British Films (Full Monty , Shooting Fish) - they really are excellent.
Plan-10: Do you have anymore screenplays or movies in the works?
Tim:
I am still promoting 'All or Nothing' and am working on a feature script
called 'Sins Of The Fathers'. I am also slowly working on a couple of experimental
Super 8 productions and a series of ultra shorts (under 1 min.) that form something
larger when viewed together. As you can tell I love talking about films and
film making - as I said before sharing ideas is crucial to us all so good luck
to Plan-10. You can disagree with me via: films@projector.demon.co.uk
