Getting Started in Films

This page is for the many people out there who want to get involved in film making but don't know where to start or even what specifically might interest them. Of course this is only the methods I know of. The more I talk to people the more varied it seems the routes into the industry are and the boundaries of film, television and games are always merging and overlapping. It may be that you are already further down the career path than the think.

Subscribe to: Shooting People. In their own words:

Shooting People is an email forum for uk filmakers, producers, scriptwriters, entertainment lawyers, arts funding bodies, actors, cinematographers - anyone working in uk independent film.

All you need is an email account and once you have subscribed to the service you will receive a daily digest. The daily digest is automatically sent to your mail box and the entire membership of shootingpeople.

The digest is made up of messages - questions, answers and information - posted by any members, relating to any aspect of independent filmaking in the UK.

Looking for help with a production? Want advice on equipment? Need someone to recommend a lawyer? Want to publicise a screening? Want the latest funding and industry news - the very next day - from the BFI, LFVDA, LEA, Arts Council, Raindance and the New Producers Alliance? Want to participate in arguments and debate by engaged and informed practitioners seeking the best way forward for uk film?

They also have a fantastic book on how to get funding.

Talent Circle do a similar role to Shooting People.
