LINKS FOR WRITERS

NOTE:

There as many different ways of working as a writer as there are writers. It seems pointless to try and cover any meaningful approach to writing on a webpage. However, I think we can all agree that writing in isolation can sometimes harm a script. Below are a range of links that can help writings find their own path.

WRITER'S WEBSITES

Writers Write is a large site that would seem to offer much but is slightly too diverse. It also covers prose and magazine writing, so the jobs section has little to offer the script writer. There are some good articles however.

Script Magazine is a publication from the US and their website is quite US based. However it contains a whole range of services both connected and un-connected to the printed magazine, including bulletin boards, articles and interviews.

The Scriptwriters Network page can keep you to date on competitions and opportunities - for example the Disney Fellowship.

About.com have a scriptwriting section that has a lot of good links and is a lot of up to date news and opinions. It's very filtered and organised as opposed to some 'shovel-it-in' sites like Script Sales.

Wordplayer is a decent site with lots of links and info. But what really sets this site apart is the excellent columns section where a different facet of writing and selling scripts is outlined quickly and with no fuss - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

MovieBytes concentrates mostly on sriptwriting competitions, events and markets.

Script Secrets is created by Raindance's LA rep William C Martell.

UK BASED

That mainstay of the indie British scene, Shooting People, have a service just for scriptwriters. It works a bit like a mailing list. Any subscriber can send in questions, comments, theories or opinions and a collection of these arrives in your in box daily, as a single mail. Check it out.

A great page for links onto other writing sites - www.darkin.demon.co.uk

Scriptunities gives frequent updates about writing opportunities.

INTERESTING SITES

Script-o-rama has a massive archive (and links to other archives) of scripts from famous films. It's a good way to see the process if you know how the film turned out. It also shows how much changes along the way. Similar is Movie Scripts.

How to copyright your script is always a concern for new writers afraid that they could be exploited. This page outlines how to protect your work.

Script Sales has a wealth of information straight out of Hollywood - who's sold what for how much etc. It also lists competitions and other info. But it's a bit raw and relies on amount of information rather than filtering it.
